SOMETIMES, YOU JUST HAVE TO TRY

    Being in the repair business, sometimes we are asked to do what seems impossible. Many times we are asked to do things we have never done before. Such was the case when one of our larger customers came to us with a large Allen Bradley 1336 Drive. We usually sub this type of drive out to the OEM because of the difficulty of repairing the main board on it. The OEM replaces the board with new rather than repair it. Also, the OEM would not sell us the parts needed.

     Our customer was really down for this drive and had no spare in inventory. Nor could they afford to wait the standard 4-6 weeks that the OEM required to repair this drive. They were in trouble.

    Enter Repair Zone and our can-do attitude. We decided we would give it a shot, knowing that we may stick a lot of time into it and still not be able to complete the repair. So, we gave it to our R&D tech to dig into. First, he repaired the board, which took several hours. He then troubleshot the other faulty components to find out the ones that needed to be repaired or replaced. He quickly found out that we had to order a part for it so he did so. To fully test it, he had to build a test stand to run the drive with the right motor. After testing, we got it back to the customer in less than 2 days, and it would have been sooner if we did not have to order a part!

    We kept in close contact with the customer so he was aware of exactly what was going on, thus keeping his team informed.

     In conclusion, by allowing ourselves the possibility to fail, we did something we never did before- and got a customer back running, without any support from the OEM. In a follow-up, the customer exclaimed, “this thing rocks-no issues, thanks for making it happen”.
